Some children don't like to read, I know, because I am one of them. I am sitting here reading though, against my will... in order to turn in some grad work. My nephew is a few feet from me playing skyrim, and he is eight years old. It amazes me that I only showed him which buttons move him, and which buttons attack, and he is slowly figuring out how to play.
What interests me is that his time has been spent interacting with npcs, reading dialogue options, and when he isn't doing that he is reading books that he found on nightstands. Chancer are good that if I had offered him a book to read instead of a video game to play, he would have turned up his nose, but in game form reading is a "means to an end." And a fun end at that. In a sense, this is art imitating life, imitating art... and the end result is literacy, I find that to be amazing.
