First things first, we need to find out what the modeller did with his map. So, 4 leaf clover (a good friend of mine) actually remade some helmets for me, and he makes outstanding maps, so for the most part you can ignore the arrows on the images. I make those lines to see how a straight line on a map reacts when it is wrapped around the object itself.
Typically my first steps, I spend about half my time looking at the last version of the map rotating the object, and the remaining half is spent looking at the map in photoshop making changes. Here are some images of the project I just started.
